Social Ministry at the Shrine of St. Anne is an ongoing activity throughout the year that provides assistance and fellowship to members of our parish, as well as to the immediate and extended community in Arvada and Colorado. We invite you to join us as a regular member or to participate in any of the following rewarding and important activities during the year.
|
Easter Basket Program |
This is a fun event for the entire parish family - especially kids, providing families with a way to share with others during Easter. Social Ministries obtains donations for Easter baskets. Then we ask for parish volunteers to gather one evening, sort the many fun basket items, place them into Easter baskets and help deliver them to other recipient parishes and charitable programs. A lot of fun!
Migrant Workers
Each year St. Anne's supports a special project, interacting with Colorado's migrant workers in one of the northern counties. We usually seek donations for the hygiene kit program and we make a special trip north to join with migrant workers in sharing experience.
Senior Citizen
Sing Along! Join us for a night of fun on this joyous sing-along occasion. The social Ministry group journeys to a nearby senior home for song, refreshments and, most importantly, making good old fashioned contact and conversation with the 'greatest generation'. The seniors love to see the young ones so bring the kids along!
Crop Walk
This fun Fall event helps raise money for local hunger fighting agencies as well as the international relief and development efforts of church World Service. St. Anne parishioners can support the Crop Walk by either walking on event day and obtaining sponsors, or by simply becoming a sponsor for a Crop Walk participant.
Navajo Clothing and Food Drive
In the Fall, the parish gathers food and clothing contributions and consolidates this collection into a metro-wide campaign collection. The clothing is then driven to the Navaho Indian reservation in Arizona and distributed where needed most. For this activity the entire parish is requested to provide donations and we ask for volunteers to assist us with sorting items into categories and bags, and finally with loading and unloading our vans and trucks on the final day of the campaign.
Thanksgiving Food Basket Program
Another great St. Anne's tradition, everyone is invited to donate special food requests and then assist us with putting together Thanksgiving dinner baskets for delivery to parish families in need, neighboring parishes and other charitable programs such as Mary Crest and the Arvada Food Bank. We need volunteer sorters, packers, van loaders and deliverers for this vibrant activity!
Christmas Toy Program
Join in this long-time St.Anne's tradition, helping us provide Christmas joy and presents to inner city parishes through our Christmas Giving Tree for children. We ask the entire parish to take a tag from the trees and provide appropriate new toys and gifts for children and teens. We can also use volunteers to help sort, pack and deliver the presents close to Christmas time! Great fun!
Arvada Religious Ministry (ARMs)
Several members of the St. Anne's Social Ministry group support special "ARMs" programs throughout the year, providing support for families and women in dire economic and social situations. We seek volunteers to support a food and shelter program in Arvada, which involves providing cooking services, overnight stays at the home to support families, and providing camaraderie and fellowship to those in need.
